"What’s the fuss, and why you need to add this into your routine!"

It seems as though “Micellar” has been a beauty buzzword for the last few years, with a lot of us using it and still not entirely sure of what it is. Although only bursting through the beauty and skincare scenes recently, Micellar Water has actually been around for over 100 years. Originating from France, the formula was created in Paris to help residents deal with the region's famously 'hard' water supply ('hard' referring to its high mineral content). For years it was prescribed for sufferers of sensitive or breakout-prone skin, before finally gaining traction with make-up artists, skin experts and beauty fanatics, and filtering right through to our supermarket shelves.

Used for make-up removal, cleansing and soothing, Micellar water is one of the steps in skincare that you simply cannot miss. Once you start and notice the difference in your skin, you’ll never stop!

So what exactly is this ‘magic water’?

The formula of Micellar Water is made of micelles, which are tiny oil molecules suspended in soft water. The technology of it is actually quite old, dating back from research in the early 1900s. The micelles, like a magnet, are attracted to dirt, grime and oil, and they draw out impurities without stripping your natural skin’s barrier and drying it out.. The micelles cling on to the dirt and make-up on your skin and dissolve them while leaving behind fresh, glowing skin.

Why is it so good for my skin?

The skin on our face is actually quite different to the skin on our body, and therefore requires us to be much more gentle with it. Vigorous scrubbing with cleansers twice daily can sometimes cause dryness, general sensitivity and breakouts. With a Micellar Water, you can gently remove, cleanse and soothe the skin thoroughly without compromising its natural hydro-lipidic barrier.

So how do I add it into my current routine?

If you have a cleanser that you love already, you can use Micellar Water as your make-up remover first (although you won’t to cleanse after!) In the morning, you can simply use Micellar Water as your cleanser and apply your skincare as normal after. It’s so easy to slip Micellar into your current routine. I even love having it on my bedside table with some cotton pads for those nights when I need a beauty shortcut.

How do I use it?

It’s so simple! You just splash some Micellar Water onto a cotton pad and wipe the pad across your face. If you’re removing your make-up first, then I’d recommend going over your skin a second time; the first time will remove the make-up, and the second will ensure all traces have been removed. There’s no need to rinse off with any water – simply apply your usual skincare after.

There’s so many types – how do I know what’s right for me?

Luckily, Garnier have that sorted. They have 4 types of Micellar Water, for every skin need.

For sensitive or normal skin the original formula of Micellar Water in the pink bottle is for you. This one is a bestseller for a reason - it has no perfume so it’s super soothing and removes make-up perfectly.

If you have skin prone to breakouts, then the Pure Active Micellar Water All in 1 is best for you. It removes make-up, purifies and mattifies and helps to clear and control breakouts.

For more oily skin, the Combination to Oily formula is best. It contains a refreshing solution that removes excess oil without drying out the skin!

For dry skin or those who wear more long-wearing or stubborn make-up, the Micellar Water in Oil is perfect (and my personal favourite). It is a bi-phase formula enriched with Argan Oil. Once shaken, the 2 phases are activated to remove all types of make-up and deeply cleanse the skin, leaving behind a soft, hydrated and soothed complexion.

Given its status as an all-in-1 cleansing must-have, why not try a Micellar Cleansing Water and add it into your skincare routine today!
