"With the plethora of apps to help you get there, I’ve rounded up my top 4 below to help you find the one that’s right for you"

Have you ever wondered how your impossibly calm colleague or friend keeps level-headed in times of pressure or stress? Do they always seem to be juggling a million and one things but just have a sense of calmness around them? Chances are they’re practising mindfulness and meditating.

Stress, pressure, deadlines and schedules get to all of us – we all live busy lifestyles and there is absolutely nothing to be ashamed about.Although some time off might seem like the ultimate solution, simply taking 5 minutes out of your day to meditate can seriously help alleviate pressure and stress, allowing you to live your busy day without feeling tense and stressed.

Studies have shown that breathing exercises and daily meditation can actually affect your brain in the long-term, shrinking the area of your brain that triggers the flight-or-flight complex. This means that you may experience enhanced creativity, better sleep, less of that stressed feeling and a general calm and glass-half-full approach to daily life.

If you’re new to meditation – trust me, it’s SO easy to learn! With the plethora of apps to help you get there, I’ve rounded up my top 4 below to help you find the one that’s right for you.

For the beginner – 1 Giant Mind App

This app is the best if you’re new to meditation or a little cynical as to how it works. It teaches you how to meditate in 12 easy steps, and sets you up with a 30-day challenge to get there. All you need is a spare 15 minutes each day, and with each step, you’ll get further into finding out how to meditate. There’s also a ton of support video tutorials and FAQ’s to help you along the way.

For the fitness fanatic – Headspace App

One of the first and most widely embraced wellness apps, headspace tackles mental health issues as you would your fitness goals. Like any good fitness app, people can draw up a wellness plan that works for them by selecting sessions to fit their mood and lifestyle.

For the busy-bee – Welzen App

This meditation app offers everything from 5 minute sessions to lunch-break calm-downs. You can select what you want to work on - like stress relief, enhanced relationships and improved creativity! The app will also give you a targeted meditation technique for each situation. It’s perfect for those who need a quick calm-down at work, or in a stressful situation.

For those who need a zen-out – Calm App

This app is like a gentle noise machine that blocks out all external commotion (just what you need when you’ve got kids running amok inside, or you’re on a busy train ride). Using different sound themes, the app takes you to a happier, calmer place while you meditate – or while you simply chill out. It also helps with your sleep, and helps you to focus on your breathing. Namaste.
